Getting Started

Share a Looker Studio dashboard with filtered data

Protect sensitive information by limiting data visibility when sharing Looker Studio dashboards with clients.

If you need to share a Looker Studio dashboard while restricting certain users from viewing all the data, this guide will walk you through the process of creating a filtered view that protects sensitive information.

Step-by-Step Dashboard Filtering Guide

1. Open Report Settings

  • Open your dashboard in Looker Studio
  • Click on "File" in the top menu bar
  • Select "Report Settings"

2. Add a Filter

  • In the side bar that appears, scroll to the bottom
  • Click on "Add a Filter"
  • Then select "Create a Filter"

3. Configure Your Filter

  • In the "Filter name" field, enter a descriptive name for your filter
  • In "Select a field", choose the column you want to filter (e.g., "account_name")
  • For "Select a condition", choose your filtering method (in this example, "Equal to")
  • In the final "Any value" field, select the specific value to filter (e.g., "Client A")
  • Click "Save" in the bottom right corner

Important Considerations

  • When you share the dashboard with a "viewer" role, they will only see data matching the filter
  • The filtered viewer cannot modify the filter or view additional data
  • This method ensures data privacy and restricts access to sensitive information

Pro Tip

Regularly review your filter settings to maintain appropriate data access controls.
